False Anglicisms in Italian Monolingual Dictionaries: A Case Study of some Electronic Editions
1 Università degli Studi di Torino (via Sant'Ottavio 20, 10124 Torino)
This article examines the Italian phenomenon of false anglicisms from a lexicographic perspective. It describes the way in which false anglicisms are recorded in Italian monolingual dictionaries whilst providing a typology and suggesting a tentatively comprehensive list of their use in Italian. The author argues that they are not treated adequately by some recent electronic dictionaries and that a more accurate typology of false anglicisms is needed for a proper classification and a better compilation of both Italian monolingual and bilingual dictionaries.
